Eldership

     Definition

     The Elders of Histon Baptist Church are men and women who have:

  1. the gift of leadership (Romans 12 v 8)
  2. the character required by scripture (1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1)

     Responsibilities

     The Elders are responsible for the spiritual oversight, direction, vision and teaching of the church by:

  1. providing direction (but not coercion) for God's people and ministries
  2. motivating others to develop gifts and talents
  3. presenting the "big picture" for others to see
  4. acting as examples in the work of the church
  5. taking responsibility for and establishing spiritual goals

     Charactersitics

Elders will be influential, diligent, visionary, trustworthy, persuasive and motivated goal setters.

     Duties

The Elders will meet regularly (at least once a month) to pray and to plan.

The Elders will be a part of the Leadership Team but cannot be Deacons.

     Term of Office

Elders are appointed for a period of 5 years. 

Each nomination for an Elder must be accompanied by 5 signatories from the church membership.

In order to be elected as an Elder of Histon Baptist Church a person must be supported by at least 75% of the church membership.

The position of Elders will form an agenda item at the Annual Church Meeting.

For every 100 members there will be between 2 and 4 Elders.  We currently have 3 Elders.
