Eldership
Definition
The Elders of Histon Baptist Church are men and women who have:

the gift of leadership (Romans 12 v 8)
-
the character required by scripture (1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1)
Responsibilities
The Elders are responsible for the spiritual oversight, direction, vision and teaching of the church by:
- providing direction (but not coercion) for God's people and ministries
- motivating others to develop gifts and talents
- presenting the "big picture" for others to see
- acting as examples in the work of the church
- taking responsibility for and establishing spiritual goals
Charactersitics
Elders will be influential, diligent, visionary, trustworthy, persuasive and motivated goal setters.
Duties
The Elders will meet regularly (at least once a month) to pray and to plan.
The Elders will be a part of the Leadership Team but cannot be Deacons.
Term of Office
Elders are appointed for a period of 5 years.
Each nomination for an Elder must be accompanied by 5 signatories from the church membership.
In order to be elected as an Elder of Histon Baptist Church a person must be supported by at least 75% of the church membership.
The position of Elders will form an agenda item at the Annual Church Meeting.
For every 100 members there will be between 2 and 4 Elders. We currently have 3 Elders.
